Welcome to 5th grade Advanced Literature! First, I have your child for two class periods (reading and composition). I will be honest in saying that my expectations are very high for these students. They are an extremely bright group of boys and girls and I like to challenge them as much as I can. The reading class itself is entirely literature based. There are no basal readers or textbooks. We will be reading at least 4 different novels this year and will do many outside thematic activities that tie to each novel. These novels are listed as at or above grade level selections based upon the vocabulary used and themes discussed within the novels. In addition, we will be working with vocabulary skills, comprehension questions and activities, essay writing, independent reading goals, and outside projects. It is very important that your child bring the necessary supplies to class daily as well as complete daily homework assignments. Many of the homeroom teachers will discuss ODRs (Office Discipline Referrals) and the EP Matrix at the information night. Most of the ODRs I fill out for my reading/composition group are not usually behavior related, but instead fall under supplies and late work.
Next, the grading scale here at East Prairie is as follows: · 90-100 A · 80-89 B · 70-79 C · 60-69 D
